A Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) is a network security system, which can detect and block sophisticated attacks by enforcing application, as well as protocol-level security policies.

Traditional firewalls are unable to identify malicious web-based applications passing through the well-known ports. Firewalls should protect against viruses, worms, trojans, spyware and ransomware. The best way is to integrate these protections into a single-pass, low-latency unit, which blocks attacks at the gateway, as well as at endpoints beyond the traditional perimeter. A next-generation firewall (NGFW) includes network-based malware protection, intrusion prevention service, email security to protect against phishing, spam, access security, network sandbox to protect against most recent malware etc.
